Like A Clear Sky

Like a clear sky after an endless stormy rain
And the rainbow in that sky
And the light of a rising sun after a cold gloomy night
And the warmth of that light
Is the sight of a man who gets up
And starts again
After he has suffered loss

Who made mistakes that cannot be unmade
Who wasted youth and spurned truth
Who walked away, and stopped his ear
Who had all, and lost all
Who loved life, but was cheated
Whose liberty was taken, whose life was shaken
Who was broken, persecuted, prosecuted
Detested, deserted, rejected
Who became hopeless, and full of regret
Whose past looks full, and future empty

But finds hope enough to believe
Love enough to be forgiven and to forgive(himself)
Peace enough to forget what ill has tainted his soul

And tries again, invests again,
Believes again, trusts again,
Lights another candle, opens another window
Breathes again, lives again
Resists another bottle, refuses another stick
Kneels in the morning, sits in the pew, sings in the night
Leafs the Torah, listens to the pulpit
Extends his hands, seeks his kin,
Completes his journey, finishes his race

Is like a clear sky after an endless stormy rain
And the rainbow in that sky.
