Introduction
The fruit of the Spirit, that is, the effects the Holy Spirit has on the life of a believer
generally relate to our relationships with others which flows from our relationship with
the Holy Spirit in us. One of the fruit listed in Galatians 5:22-23 is PEACE. Generally,
peace is the absence of conflict, disturbance or war, but biblical peace is more than that.
It is harmony, safety, friendliness and relational tranquility. It is a state of inner calm
that reflects through us to others no matter what is happening around us or among us.
Fundamentals of Peace
The source of PEACE is God. Humans are incapable of creating the conditions of
peace, only God can establish peace. (Romans 5:1) The peace of God was
introduced with God making peace with man. This peace is abundant in the heart
of a spirit filled Christian. It is available at all times and in any situation to bring
calm, contentment and confidence instead of panic, doubt or fear.
We receive Peace by faith in the finished works of Christ who is the Prince of Peace.
(Isaiah 9:6, 53:5; Ephesians 6:15)
We keep our peace with God by thinking on God’s word, studying and doing
God’s word and prayer (Philippians 4:6-9).
We give Peace in our relationship with others by :
a. thinking peace thoughts towards others (Philippians 4:8-9). The God of peace
Himself thinks peace towards us (Jeremiah 29:11), so we should do same.
b. saying Peace words to both calm (John 20:19,21) and troubled situations or
persons (Mark 4:39) like our model, Jesus – the Prince of Peace.
c. doing peace deeds, such as praying for others (John 14:27, Philippians 4:6-7),
preaching the gospel (Peace Making – Matthew 5:9, Romans 10:15) and sowing
seeds of peace not discord (Peace Keeping – Romans 14:19, Hebrews 12:14).
Conclusion
Being at peace with God gives us access to enjoy the peace of God and by extension,
enables us to live in peace with others. As a mantra, we can say: NO GOD, NO PEACE;
KNOW GOD, KNOW PEACE! As we allow the Holy Spirit to work on our emotions, will
and actions, the fruit of peace keeps growing in us, thereby pleasing God and making
even our enemies to be at peace with us. (Proverbs 16:7).

Confession
I declare that I have peace with God through the blood of Jesus because it is written that
Jesus paid the full price for me to have peace. Therefore, I have the peace of God and
there is nothing missing, nothing broken in my spirit, soul and body. As I have received
peace from God, I have peace with men. I am a peace-maker and peace-keeper in Jesus
name. Amen.
